As someone who spent the majority of their 20’s as a freelancer working remotely and sporadically as a digital nomad, I’d say I’m well prepared for this moment. No, I have never been in a pandemic, and no, I have never experienced anything like this in my life (and neither have many of us) BUT I have lived and worked in my house, although voluntarily, for extended periods of time. With that experience, I found that even as an introvert, I had to create ways to feel socially tied to others around me. Humans are social beings and forced isolation can get the best of us. I’m sharing with you a few tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way that will help you stay and feel connected to those around you.
Verbal Communication

Hearing a person’s voice allows us to feel connected differently than texting. Everyone always tells you not to fight or do anything important over text and it’s because you don’t get their tone of voice. It’s also helpful in that it allows you to feel more connected to the person. Hearing another person’s voice allows you to identify and “see” the person speaking in your mind. This also enhances empathy and connectedness that you’ll likely be in need of.
